Today's Sunset Over Big Bear Lake

a place to be
We are a car-free retired couple living in a small 950 sq ft mountain cabin on less than 1/4 acre at 6,750 ft elevation. The native plant habitat we established on the property now exceeds 100 species and we grow organic vegetables on a small portion of the yard. In our continuing efforts toward simple, sustainable and rewarding lives we bid our last car "Good Riddance" in January of 1997. Earth Home Garden represents what we love in life; our bountiful planet EARTH and all her natural diversity; our cozy little cabin HOME and the family it has sheltered for 29 years; and the GARDEN around us which nurtures so many native creatures and helps feed us as well. It's our PLACE TO BE........... ***NOTICE*** Unless otherwise stated, all photos and text posted here are the copyrighted property of Jim Otterstrom, who hereby grants permission to re-print or re-publish his work, freely, for non-commercial purposes, so long as it is un-altered and credit is given. Very nice. I find with our south western setting against the river I am able to catch a lovely sunset over the water almost every evening. I now have over 300 but have not yet become bored or jaded.
Tabor-
So your house has a view of a river? Sounds very nice!
We don't have clouds regularly enough to color sunsets this magnificently every evening.
Still, to my mind, sunsets are like flowers, each one a beautiful miracle in it's own right. I never tire of natural beauty, only of the destruction of it.
The works of humankind have left me jaded and disappointed with my own species, but the rest of nature leaves me in constant awe, giving me the strength, every day, to once again face our out-of-control destructiveness.
Sunsets are magical. My wife and I spent three weeks visiting Tucson several years ago. We lived in a small house across the mountains (to the west) from Tucson. Living in that desert environment was like being on a whole new planet (for someone from Wisconsin!).
What was particularly notable were the brilliant, glorious sunsets every evening. Shades of yellow, orange, red, purple made each one spectacular. We regularly sat out on the patio at sunset watching them (and the lovely, cheerful Gambel's quail). What a beautiful time it was.
now that is a wonderful way to spend an evening
Awsome
This year I have seen more sunsets than ever before - because I am retired, and can spend the time gazing in the late afternoon. Before, when the sun set during the workday, I could only snatch glimpses from across the office.
This one is a beauty Jim.
is there any better way to end a day, than with a beautiful sunset? at my previous rez, i had a 2nd story deck on the west side of the house.... ah, the sunsets! they last a long time this far north. and it was a great place to go of a winter's evening, and enjoy the northern lights too.
your work here makes the internet a brighter place.
