Red-Shafted Flicker
Red-Shafted Flickers are the most common woodpecker in our area, and, to me, one of the most gracefully formed & beautifully marked birds of all. They are year 'round residents here.
I took the photo this image is made from back in mid-December, re-discovering it last night while Peggy and I were going through some photo files.
I played with it in Photoshop a bit to come up with this etching-like image.
This male Flicker is on a branch in a small Jeffrey Pine just above the naturally formed bird-bath in our giant boulder.

Just such a beautiful image - thanks for sharing.
The flickers are my favorite. We have three resident in our woods and I love the way they peak in and out of the old snags.
Wonderful shot
Beautiful Bird
Really enjoy your post
We have the yellow-shafted variety in my forest, but they don't stick around for winter.
Nice image! I like the way you artistically enhanced the original. We have yellow-shafted flickers in summer. Our winter woodpecker is the Pileated. Big beautiful birds that can really do a number on decaying, insect-ridden trees, leaving a large pile of big chips beneath them. They have even been coming to our feeding station. Never see that before!
always nice to see you and Dallas out walking.... how is peggy?
