Fall Quaking Aspen Leaf

I spent some time this morning photographing leaves on a Quaking Aspen and I think this is my favorite shot.
It was taken at 8:15 as Dallas and I dilly-dallyed homeward from the lake.

That's a great shot, Jim - the richness of the colour, the light and the texture of the leaf are wonderful. Golden Octobers indeed!

Thanks Sara, and guess who got a new camera yesterday?
I found a way to post larger pictures here too, so the blog will probably take on a slightly different look.
Do you have any info on the settings of your camera for that reflected leaf photo of yours?
I'm so taken with it that I've saved it in a folder to drool over now & then.

Wow. That's all I can say.

(well, almost all...I did want to add that I think Dallas looks like a great companion. Dogs, you gotta love 'em.)

Just found you by reading the comment you left over at sara's site.
Your photography is beautiful, Jim. I'm going to explore your blog, but this photo of the leaf, and the one of the heron below are spectacular.
What kind of camera did you get?

I'm surprised you were able to get the leaf to hold still long enf to take this really nice photo.

rexroth's daughter-

Glad to see you here.

I've had a Canon Powershot 4mp S200 Digital Elph (a tiny but very competent point & shoot camera) for several years but I've been waiting for something more versatile, with telephoto and manual controls, that wouldn't bankrupt me.

The camera I just bought is the new Canon Powershot 5mp S2 IS with 12X image stabilized optical zoom (36 to 433mm) and a super-macro feature where the subject can actually be touching the glass and the lense will focus on it.
A sweet camera for under $450!

Pablo-

The leaves were fluttering all over the place, and I took that in normal macro mode, not super-macro, about 4" from the lense and the camera just handled the rest.
I cropped the picture about 30% I believe to bring the leaf forward.

swamp4me-

I've had several incredible canine companions in my life and Dallas is right there with the best of 'em.
I don't know how I get so lucky...
