Great Blue Heron
This Blue Heron was very intently dabbling for breakfast at 7:36 this morning in the Stanfield Marsh as Dallas and I meandered around the shoreline.
I suspect this one is a youngster because it's a wee bit smaller than the other two we've seen here for several years, and it's not quite as skitterish yet either.

Great shot! Really a National Geographic's picture! I love so much the large format's photos. It's wonderful!
Herons are among my favorite birds. This is a great picture.
I noticed in your profile that you are a fan of Sir David's Private Life of Plants. You may be interested to know that he and his crew filmed a brief segment of that series in my "backyard." My husband was fortunate enough to spend the day with them as they filmed.

WOW!
What segment did they shoot there, that's one of my favorite alltime nature films?
That's a day Mr. Swamp will always remember I'm sure.
Yes, I love the herons too and I'm hoping to get some decent pictures of the White Pelicans here as well, but they're even more skitterish than the herons.
i love blue herons...they bring back memories of watching them on our pond when i was a tomboy, running around half naked riding my pinto pony bareback...
they are such beautiful birds.
Beautiful photos, this one and the leaf. Congrats on the new camera, I will be getting mine shortly!
When I was little my grandparents lived on a lake, right across from an island that was a protected heron rookery. Sometimes I would take the rowboat or paddle boat over to the island just to watch and listen to the herons.
Wow! I envy you that sighting, and the shot. I have never gotten that close even with a 5x lense. Excellent!
That is a gorgeous photo! What a great shot, and you've got the reflection in the water below, too, which I love.
