The idea was for my friend Bill to brew some of his great beer using these hops, but so far their quality hasn't been quite up to snuff for brewing.

Hops really vary! My first vine was HORRID. Then I ordered some stock from a beer store and it's the best I've ever tasted. I just have to remember to harvest them (they have to be harvested at their peak and frozen).
I make "kefir beer" which is a lot easier than the "real beer" we used to make, and fresher too. I use molasses rather than barley, which is easier also.
