Last Year's Nest

Alongside our trail through the forest this morning we came across this nest which had fallen from a tree in one of the winter storms. I was struck by the similarity of this nest to the bassinets I remember from my childhood. Basket-like cribs with pink & blue ribbons woven through them, because in those days you had no idea what gender your baby would be before it was born. Now here is a wild bird nest in the forest with pink and blue yarn woven carefully into it. I might expect something like this in our neighborhood but it's a bit disconcerting out here.

Some theorize that the talking mammals (humans) first got the idea of basket weaving from observing bird nests. Sounds plausible to me.

Pablo-

Sounds plausible to me as well when so much of the art & crafts of Native Americans, and other indigenous people, reflects the beauty of nature all around us.
