We Made The Front Page!
Our local newspaper, the Big Bear Grizzly, has been doing some recent stories on the high cost of gasoline and how people might cut back on their fuel expenses.
The paper got word of our car-free lifestyle and called us over the weekend to arrange an interview about our experiences.
So we knew this was coming out today but were surprised to see our mugs on the front page.
Peggy and I think the article is nicely written, simple and to the point, and we feel honored to be featured in our local paper.
There is one slight error in the story that I will correct here. It says that we retired from the Postal Service in 1997, but I retired in 2001, and Peggy retired in 2004.

WOW ! Congrats to you two and the front page at that... how nice. Your story should be an inspiration to others. Good work and happy first day of Spring !
I just ran across your blog and found it interesting...I'll be back to visit more.Congratulations on the article AND getting on the front page! My family and I were featured on the front page of our small town newspaper a couple of years ago.It was just one of those little out and about type of things with only a few sentences. We were at our park and I was strolling our twin daughters and my husband was teaching our son to ride a bike with no training wheels. But the bad thing is,that particular day I wasn't feeling so well, and just threw on one of my husband's t shirts and baggy pants AND no makeup...I don't care if I don't wear makeup in public usually, but if I had known my picture was going to be on the front page,I would have put a little something on,lol.
buddy, can you spare $3.79
( i need another gallon of 'juice')
hehe
congrats on the front page article.
That's fantastic! What an honor for such a good thing!
Wow,that's wonderful! I've been reading your blog for quite sometime and find it very inspirational and informative.
My husband and I are working on changing our lifestyle. We try and make our decisions meet up with what we believe in every area of life. We want to be a part of the solution that helps to secure a greener future for our kids and their kids. We don't want our grandkids to grow up in a trash heap, where grey skies, dirty water, and brown air make up their daily existence. You and your wife encourage people like us to do more. Thank you!
I look forward to reading more so keep writing!
I remember when my parents used to admonish me to never do anything that would wind up on the front page. You and Peg turn that philosophy upside down. It is a lot of work staying true to your beliefs and convictions. You two do it with an obvious joie de vivre. Congratulations!
Bravo...my friend is the woman who wrote the article, and she forwarded the site to me to check out. I love what you guys have done and I will definitely go read the rest of it. Congrats for making the front page!
What a great article Jim & Peggy.
Well done you two! ~
Congratulations, and if that article convinces just one person to think about his/her relationship with the automobile, it will be a success.
Congratulations. It's always nice to be recognized (and in print no less). :)
I sure like the freedom angle (which of course has been there in your sidebar all along). Way to go!
