Sorry For The Interlude...

I've apparently injured my hip and it seems that I have a pinched nerve which is causing me great discomfort.

At this point I can barely walk more than a few feet so nothing is getting done around here and I have nothing to post.

I'm spending my time reading while trying to figure the best natureopathic/holistic way to deal with this problem.

Any advice along those lines would be highly appreciated.

I'll be seeing a chiropractor this week if I can find one that doesn't require X-Rays because I refuse to support industrial medicine and its toxic invasive methods.

But I hope I will be walking, gardening and blogging again very soon!

Love, Jim

I am so sorry to hear that Jim. I'm sure you're not only in pain, but very frustrated too. I hope you have a speedy recovery.

Thanks Peg!
I'm not accustomed to being incapacitated so yes it's very frustrating.

Thanks friends for your comments & concerns.
And Contrary Goddess, thanks for the tips on fats, yoga and physical therapy as those are the avenues I'm pursuing.
This too shall pass!
Aspirin has been very helpful.

I, too was wondering where you were, Jim. Sorry to hear of your problem and hope you can find some relief very soon and be back on that bike!
I'm way too much of a conventional medicine believer and practitioner to be able to offer any helpful suggestions that you might accept. Sorry!
(Just be wary...aspirin can rot your gut!)

Thanks for checking in girl, I miss hearing from you!

I only use the 81mg enteric coated aspirin (sometimes 3 or 4 of them), but hopefully they're a bit less hard on the stomach.
Of course I don't know what havoc they may be causing in the intestines, but the alternatives all seem much worse to me.

I went to a shiatsu massage therapist today and I'm already feeling 100% better, but I'll wait & see how I feel in the days to come before I start making any exhalted proclamations about my amazing recovery:>)

How's things on your beautiful New Zealand homestead?

Life is very good and autumn is beautiful here right now, Jim.
Take good care mate! (I'm glad you've got Nurse Peggy to look after you.)

Hi Candy-

Good to hear from you and I'm looking forward to hearing about your Hawaii trip.
Things seem to be slowly improving with my leg and I guess it would be pretty silly to think one could grow older without some health problems.
I've been pretty lucky thus far, especially considering the wild pastimes of my youth like motorcycling & hang-gliding!
When I feel more like sitting at the computer for awhile I'll get an e-mail off to you.
I owe Glo one too!

Ouch, pinched nerve! I'm glad that you are doing better now. :-)

I don't know if it'll help pinched nerves, but topical peppermint oil helps me with sore muscles, aching joints, and tension headaches. I rub it on whatever hurts. Be sure to keep it away from your eyes and nose and test your sensitivity to it with a small amount at first. I use peppermint essential oil, but it's also found in peppermint extract in the grocery store and as part of the active ingredients (a.k.a. menthol) in pain-relieving rubs ("Icy Hot", etc.).

Peppermint activates the same cold receptors as ice, which is why it gives you a cold sensation. It also causes your body to release natural painkillers, which is how it can help relieve localized pain.
