Trout Spawning...

We discovered a trove of trout in a small pool along one of the streams feeding Big Bear Lake this morning. I lost count at 30 and not one of these beauties was less than 18" long. We surmised they were spawning because there was a half eaten fish on the ground nearby, with talon wounds in its flanks, and orange eggs strewn everywhere. We figure one of the Bald Eagles we see each morning must've had trout for breakfast. I saw a Great Blue Heron standing by this same pool the other morning, but I suspect these fish are a bit large for a heron.
